FRIM-1 day

Chieh Hwa and I were both involved in this activity. We woke up very early in the morning and went to McD and bought 25 sets of breakfast. After that, we carried all the breakfast and drove to FRIM. All the auntie and single mother were dancing and exercising beside the car park area. When they finished dancing, is time for breakfast. We distributed the breakfast and collected the rubbish once they had finished.

Time to rest and breakfast

On the way to hill top
Later on, all of us went for jungle trekking and enjoy the waterfall at the top of the hill. FRIM is actually consider a very big compound, really took time for us to finish explore the whole FRIM. Through the exploring path, we know about the species of the trees and flower. The attraction included canopy walk, Botanical garden, Malaysia Traditional houses, Arboreta, Silicified wood and many more.

Help in BRIM- 3 sections

Chieh Hwa and me as a volunteer help in the BRIM 2.0 (Bantuan Rakyat satu Malaysia) registration. There were 2 section in Damansara Damai ( Apartment Permai and Lestari) and 1 in Kayu Ara (Restaurant). Before the registration started, we have to know the basic qualification of the citizens to apply for the BRIM. Once we all understand all the detail, we started our job. This 3 section of the BRIM were held under "GERAKAN" - (Penyelaras Dun Bukit Lanjan) and were managed by Francis Chong Tuck Chiew.

Basically is pretty simple, just asked according to the checklist and helped them to fill in the form as well as helping them to photostates their IC.

SPCA - 5 days

Almost 10 of us went to SPCA (Society for the prevention of cruelty of animals) by LRT in the early morning. The first time when I was there, I was in charged for the paper work such as writing the receipt, stamping, and classified all the letter. However, the following day,  we were asked to clean the cats and dogs' cage and also replace the newspaper in the dogs' cage. The boys were normally in charge of cleaning the floor. Around 10am or 11am, is time for the dogs to eat their lunch, our duty was distributed the food to all the dogs.

Honestly, the smell of the place is very disgusting, lucky we all wore the mask when we were handling in the dog area. After we have done all the jobs, we can now play with the dogs that we like.

Zoo Negara - 4 days

We went to Zoo Negara as a volunteer. There are many section in the Zoo, Our job covered usually depend on the section we go.

First and second day - Bear section

3 of us were asked to join this section. Jun Rong, Chieh Hwa and me were in the same group on the first day while Yee Yein, MK, and me were in the same group on the second day. We were separated and each of us follow 1 keeper and did different thing. For me, the job on the first and second day was the same. Sweeping, collecting shit and small branch, feeding of different animal. The animals which under the bear section were deer, mini kangaroo, goat, tapir, bear, bat and otter. We were sweating all the day and muscle pain after the heavy cleaning job. This is the toughest and hardest section that I ever saw.

Third day - aquarium
The easiest section during my volunteer job. All I did was cleaning the aquarium glass. At first I really thought that is a super duper easy task for me but then I noticed  there are much more aquarium that what I expected. Finally, I managed to finish in 45 minutes. Later on, we have to sweep the floor at the backyard and clean the tanks as well as feeding the fish.

Fourth day - Mammal kingdom
The zookeeper in this section is kind and very hardworking unlike the previous sections. The one thing that surprised me was, he used the detergent to clean the cage in order to remove the animal' smell and the moss. All I did in this section was cleaning the cage, sweeping floor and preparing the food for the animal. The animal in this section is usually carnivore such as Black panther, Hyena, Leopard and Puma. Besides, there are also some mini and cute mammal. For examples, Capybara, Slow loris,Otter, Jungle cat, Raccoon and Civet.

I get to know a lot of rare animal and have the opportunity to get closer look at the animal. Other than that, I do learn the name of the respective animal and also have the better understanding on the keeper working routine. People can just easily stand in front of the cage and watch or snap the photos but the work done  by the keeper to maintain the health and living of the animal is extremely hard.

(Putrajaya) on 16 Sep 2012

"Parti Gerakan Wanita Selangor" was organizing a trip for the single mothers and their children visit to Putrajaya.  My mom is one of the community member so I joining in in this event. The "Parti" has fund some money for the trip such as hiring tour guide, rent a bus, ticket for riding boat, breakfast, lunch and tupperware. My job covered preparation of breakfast, packing the sweets and biscuit into goodie bag and tupperware as well as photographer. Sometime, when their mom not free, I event become babysitter but luckily, most of the children are not hard to take care.

The activity on that day include riding boat and visiting some famous place such as
1. botanic garden                                             7. Istana Darul Ehsan
2. perdana putra                                               8. Leadership fountain
3. Seri perdana                                                9. Heritage square
4. Putrajaya Ministry of finance                        10. Putra mosque
5. Wisma Putra                                                11. Millennium monument
6. Putrajaya conventional centre                       12. Putrajaya landmark

The purpose of this event is provide them a chance to have a wonderful time with their child, widen their point  of view. A professional tour guide was hired to explain all the history of the building (private and government sector) and also the history of the process of developing whole putrajaya. Hence, they can gain a better knowledge about the federal administrative centre of Malaysia.

The seat of government was slowly shifted in 1999 from KL to Putrajaya due to overcrowding and congestion in KL area. Nevertheless, Kuala Lumpur ermains Malaysia's national capital, being the seat of the King and Parliament, as well as the country's commercial and financial centre. Putrajaya was the brainchild of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad. In 2001, Putrajaya became Malaysia's third Federal Territory after Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

At first, they feel sleepy and doesn't expect much on this trip but when they reach the destination, they become super active, keep taking picture and talk here and there. They having a lot of fun during the visit even some of them said they have learn a lot of new things today. For me, I got the opportunity to gain knowledge and further understand the history of Putrajaya when I was performing the community service. Yeah, win win situation.
